Establishment: The University of Otago was founded in 1869 and it is New Zealand’s oldest University.
Student strength: There were 22,00 students enrolled to study at Otago in 2012 and it had 2,800 international students from more than 90 countries worldwide.
Ranking: Otago is one of the leading New Zealand universities for research and was top ranked for research in the PBRF Quality Evaluation, 2006. (The PBRF or Performance-Based Research Fund is the Government of New Zealand’s formal assessment of the research performance of tertiary institutions.) In the QS World rankings (2012), it was ranked the second highest in New Zealand with a rank of 133 overall and it was also rated in the top 100 in the world in the areas of Life Sciences and Bio Medicine.
