Massey University


Massey University is one of New Zealand’s largest universities, with approximately 35,000 students, 17,000 of whom are extramural or distance learning students. Massey University has campuses in Palmerston North, Wellington and Auckland.

Establishment: Massey was established in 1927 and was granted university status in 1964.

Student strength: There were 31,200 students studying at Massey and 3,290 of these were international students.

Ranking: Massey has been ranked at 77 in the Times Higher Education 100 under 50 rankings (2012) (The Times 100 under 50 ranks the top 100 universities in the world that are under 50 years old) In the QS system (2012) it was ranked 308 overall, 50th equal in the world in education, in the top 100 in the world in earth sciences, and communication and media studies, in the top 150 in the world in operations research and accounting and finance and in the top 200 in the world in biological sciences, sociology, and economics and econometrics.
